The ChillTech EGC Series can be set up equally well to deliver temperature range to read 3-18 degrees Celsius, which, when combined with a conventional cold room set up, will allow for the establishment of cold storage facilities where all or most of the required power is drawn from the waste heat of a generator.
Refrigerated Transport with zero cost and zero GHGs
Our new EGC7 truck/trailer refrigeration unit, designed to be fitted to a 40′ insulated trailer, for example, will eliminate all fuel costs of refrigerated transportation and reduce food waste substantially, all at no cost and with zero greenhouse gas emissions, or use of high-GWP refrigerants.
Lack of Cold Chain in the Global South – Transformational Impact of ChillTech Cold Chain Products
In the Global South, where margins are extremely tight and commodity values of fresh produce are low in absolute terms, the cost of fuel is usually prohibitive for operators, from farmers to distributers, preventing use of conventional electrically-powered refrigeration. It is usually cheaper to accept food wastage as high as 65% than to pay for the fuel to run a conventional cooling system.
Because ChillTech’s chillers deliver cooling free at the point of use, this depressing and destructive dynamic can be reversed and cooling made affordable, often for the first time.
Making Cold Chain Possible
The consequences of this can be profound:
- New industries can be created, in the cold chain
- Food waste can be dramatically reduced and shelf life extended, improving economic and social outcomes (food waste in Nigeria, for example, is estimated by that country’s government to be a $15 billion a year problem)
- Significant amounts of GHGs can be avoided, from saved fuel, to reduced food waste, to reductions in production of food, most of which is, in its turn, wasted, to reductions in the number of miles driven by trucks carrying food.
With a payback period usually below 1.5 years for the EGC Series and sub-6 months for the EGC7 the ChillTech system is within reach of the many. Further developments in the market’s ability to offer Cooling as a Service, whereby CAPEX is turned into OPEX, is expected to accelerate the uptake of our highly effective technology.
